Our History
In 1969 Major George Bennett, Camp Commandant of Trentham Army Camp asked two of his staff, Gordon Leighton and Jack Crawford to form a golf committee. The land available was swampy in places and overgrown with tussock and bullrushes. In essence this was the beginning of the Trentham Camp Golf Club. From swamp and tussock, six greens were carved out of the scrub. Over the ensuing years sheep were cleared from the course, drains were established and greens and fairways were developed until finally in 1981, the last four holes were completed turning the course into an 18 hole facility.
The Club was established under the voluntary effort and generosity of members and their families. It took many working bees and many fundraising activities to provide the marvellous facility that we have today. The Club provides an environment for all the community to enjoy with an active membership and where visitors and new members are always welcome.
